Health Benefits of Blackberries
One of the stars of Energizing Granola Parfait is blackberries. I find blackberries can be a forgotten berry since I tend to lean towards raspberries and blueberries. When blackberries are ripe they are sweet and juicy with a hint of tart flavour. Blackberries are packed with health benefits.
- Blackberries are high in manganese making them excellent for brain function because they support the synapses in your brain firing signals.
- Their polyphenol content also helps to slow brain degeneration, making them an excellent choice to keep our brains sharper for longer.
- Blackberries are known to be one of the highest antioxidant foods on the market, helping to protect us from illness.
- They are packed with protein! Fruit isn’t often well known for protein, but these berries pack a punch at 2 grams of protein in just one cup.
Why I love adding protein to my breakfast
Protein is important in helping us feel energized because it helps to transport oxygen in our blood to our cells. If our cells are lacking oxygen, then we feel more tired and sluggish. Transport proteins also carry vitamins and minerals through your blood to ensure your nutrients are being used efficiently! It also helps us heal and recover from injury and illness by supporting our immune system by making antibodies.
