Bone Health Tips from Nutrition and Wellness Keynote Speaker

As a nutrition and wellness keynote speaker, there are so many things I love about my job! Creating recipes, bringing wellness into the workplace and teaching the next generation of holistic nutritionists. What’s great is, hosting cooking classes allows me to bring a little bit of all of that into one offering. Nutrition and wellness don’t have to be boring, restrictive or complicated. And it doesn’t mean eating only salads and food that tastes like wood chips.

In past cooking classes, I’ve shared original recipes for things like Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp, Spicy Dark Chocolate desserts and Irish Pub Salad, and this time, with a focus on bone health, I’ve got 2 recipes that I know you’ll want to make on repeat long after the summer ends.

Ease Into Fall With Virtual Cooking Classes Led By A Nutrition and Wellness Keynote Speaker

In Ontario, August is all about corn! It’s the star of the season and signals the end of summer’s luscious bounty. But don’t worry, that means apple season is around the corner! These recipes from my September virtual cooking class are crafted to keep the fun and flavour of summer alive while preparing you for the cozy months ahead.

Must Make Apple Recipes

There’s nothing better than biting into a crisp, juicy apple on a hot summer day. It’s refreshing, full of fibre and vitamin C, and is a versatile ingredient that can be made sweet or savoury. In this virtual cooking class, we’ll make my healthy apple crumble and either a cranberry-apple kale slaw or an apple cider cocktail/mocktail – your choice!

Celebrate Corn Harvest

Corn is a summer staple for so many of us, but often we default to corn on the cob – why mess with a good thing, right? Well, I’ve got two delicious recipes that have corn as their star ingredient that you probably haven’t made yet – Coconut Curry Corn Soup and Fresh Corn Salsa. Packed full of minerals like zinc, magnesium, copper and iron, corn is a lot more versatile than you might think. Learn new ways to cook with an old favourite and keep these recipes on your monthly rotation.

Lunch & Learn: Better Bone Health

When we think of bone health we tend to think of calcium. While it’s an important component of building and maintaining bone tissue there’s more to it. As a nutrition and wellness keynote speaker, I shine a spotlight on all the other very important vitamins and minerals that support longevity:

  • Vitamin A: Essential in bone growth and repair, vitamin A is necessary for avoiding fractures and osteoporosis. Without it, all the calcium we consume won’t be absorbed.
  • Vitamin K: Your body needs vitamin K to keep calcium in your bones where it belongs, rather than letting it build up in your arteries and other tissues.
  • Phosphorus: Like vitamin A, phosphorus works in tandem with calcium and is vital for maintaining healthy bones and teeth.
  • Folate: Building and repairing cells is an important factor for resilient and tough bones. It also helps make red blood cells which get oxygen into our bones.
  • Zinc: We need dense, study bones that are also supple and adaptable. Zinc does this by remodelling our bones as we move through life with resiliency and freedom.
  • Silica: Our bodies strongest tissues have many things in common. One of them is collagen, and for collagen to be strong it needs silica. And lucky for us, silica can be found in lentils, bananas and green beans!
  • Potassium: When our bodies are too acidic or not acidic enough, it can decrease bone density. This can lead to osteopenia, osteoporosis, or fractures. Including potassium-rich foods like bananas, sweet potatoes, and spinach in your diet can help!

And the great thing is, you can find all of these minerals in the recipes in this month’s cooking classes!
